The Very Last "Desperta Ferro!" (Gagliano 1300 special rules for Lion Rampant)

A chosen terrain feature becomes a 'last stand' that makes its occupant immune to rout and throws back assailants after each combat.

A scenario for the 1300 Battle of Gagliano with special rules for Lion Rampant meant to be reusable in similar situations: an Almogavar upgrade and battle cry, dismounting men-at-arms, the French 'oath of death' and a last-stand position. Retinues are 24 points per side.

Morale & Cohesion

3morale

A designated terrain feature makes its single occupant immune to battered and rout results, and repels assailants after combat.

How it works

At the start of any turn the French may permanently select a feature such as a hill. One unit may occupy it; that unit removes any battered marker, cannot be battered or routed, does not retreat, and after each close combat any assaulting enemy is moved 3" away regardless of outcome unless the unit is wiped out.

Only one unit can occupy that terrain: that unit removes any previous 'battered' marker, cannot suffer a 'battered' or 'rout' result from a morale test, and does not retreat.

2morale
Oath of deathRout & rally

French men-at-arms ignore rout results, losing an extra model and retreating half a move instead.

How it works

Both mounted and foot French men-at-arms treat a rout result as one additional model removed and a normal half-move retreat, unless in their last stand.

The French men-at-arms (both mounted and on foot) ignore rout results from morale tests: remove an additional model from the unit and retreat half movement distance normally

2morale
Almogavars' battle cryMorale tests

A unit charged by Almogavars must take a morale check before the charge moves.

How it works

On a successful Almogavar charge order the target tests morale first, then the Almogavars move their full distance and fight if they contact. It applies only the first time a unit is charged by Almogavars; troops used to them may be made immune.

When an Almogavar unit rolls a successful charge order, the unit receiving the charge must take a morale check before the charge movement takes place.

Mercenaries (drilled) / Dismounted cavalrySpecial traits & abilities

Almogavars can lose Wild Charge and gain counter-charge vs cavalry; French men-at-arms may dismount on a movement order.

How it works

Upgrade: fierce foot made drilled, eliminating Wild Charge, for 1 point, with counter-charge against cavalry. On a successful movement order French mounted men-at-arms dismount (replaced by foot men-at-arms) or two foot units merge (max six models); they cannot remount or split.
