Resolution Cards / The Black ShieldA Coat of Steel

A Resolution deck replaces dice: the Black Shield number (1-6) is the randomiser, and card quadrants give commitment-graded check results.

How it works

Cards are drawn for shooting, handstrokes, casualties, commander casualties, Courage and Faltering checks; each has a TBS number and quadrants listing results per commitment level. Some cards are Happenstances.

The Black Shield (TBS)- The black shield icon in the middle of each resolution card- numbered 1to 6. These may be used in lieu of six sided dice rolls.

Two standard decks (one per side) resolve damage while 2d6 resolves movement, shooting and tests.

How it works

Two 52-card decks without jokers are used, German ships drawing from the German damage deck and British from theirs. Suit drives penetration and rank drives effect.

Two 52-card decks of playing cards with the Jokers removed are needed to resolve damage effects.
